Chip.
This is a side project that is still very much in the works. I started looking into sewing some minimalist hiking packs, eventually making my way into other small bags, too. The process usually includes drawing some things out, then creating a flat pattern in Illustrator that I can trace and cut out of fabric. At some point, I acquired an industrial sewing machine (it has an oil pan!) and that’s how I put them together.
I feel like it’s very rewarding to work through all of this on my own. Defining a shape, whittling down the form factor, picking fabrics & hardware, and putting it all together into a functional object. In some ways, the skillset is very similar to what I do in the digital space, but also very, very different. You can see what I’ve been up to on Instagram.
